8-Week Composition is a new initiative started at Oklahoma State University designed to offer students an opportunity to complete their FYC requirement in one semester. This program launched in Fall 2022 and is currently being overseen and co-designed by Teaching Assistant Professor Dr. Ryan Slesinger, while pilot versions of the course are being taught and co-designed by Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Daniel Morse

The inspiration for this curriculum was drawn from innovations at Odessa Community College in which they redesigned their entire curriculum around 8-week courses in order to offer working and commuter students more onboarding opportunities to complete their courses successfully. OCC and other community colleges have seen major boosts to student success as a result of these innovations, and at Oklahoma State University we have implemented this in a unique model designed to place 8-week FYC students with an experienced instructor and a manageable workload. Currently, all these courses are offered online in order to serve commuter and outreach students. Interested students should contact the Coordinator of 8-Week FYC, Dr. Ryan Slesinger, or Director of FYC, Dr. Joshua Daniel, to enroll.
